Shutter Definitions

1. Shutter - a photographic device that administers the exposure by limiting the time over which light is admitted

2. Shutter Speeds - shutter speed is a common term used to discuss exposure time, the effective length of time a camera's shutter is open.[1] The total exposure is proportional to this exposure time, or duration of light reaching the film or image sensor.

3. Shutter Priority- refers to a setting on some cameras that allows the user to choose a specific shutter speed while the camera adjusts the aperture to ensure correct exposure.

4. Exposure- the total amount of light allowed to fall on the sensor during the taking of a photograph

5. Bulb- is a shutter speed setting on an adjustable camera that allows for long exposure times under the direct control of the photographer.

6. Cable Release- same as bulb

7. Tripod- a word generally used to refer to a three-legged object, generally one used as a platform of some sort, and comes from the Greek tripous, meaning "three feet"

8. Light Meter- a device used to measure the amount of light.

9. Bracketing- the general technique of taking several shots of the same subject using different or the same camera settings.

10. Hot Shoe- a mounting point on the top of a camera to attach a flash unit.

The Camera

1. SLR - A single-lens reflex (SLR) camera is a camera that typically uses a semi-automatic moving mirror system that permits the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the film or digital imaging system.

2. TLR - A twin-lens reflex camera (TLR) is a type of camera with two objective lenses of the same focal length.

3. Lens - A lens (also known as photographic lens, objective lens or photographic objective) is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.

4. Shutter - a photographic device that administers the exposure by limiting the time over which light is admitted

5. Shutter speed control - In still cameras, the term shutter speed represents the time that the shutter remains open when taking a photograph. Along with the aperture of the lens (also called f-number), it determines the amount of light that reaches the film or sensor. Conventionally, the exposure is measured in units of exposure value (EV), sometimes called stops, representing a halving or doubling of the exposure.

6. Aperture - The aperture stop of a photographic lens can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the film or image sensor.

7. ISO - ISO is actually a common short name for the International Organisation for Standardization.

8. ASA - A camera dial used to measure the light speed.

9. Shutter Button - the shutter-release button (sometimes just shutter release or shutter button) is a button found on many cameras, used to take a picture.

10. Rewind Nob - Rewinds the film in the camera.

Surveilance Project

1. Where did you set up your camera first?

A: I set it up by the grade 7 hallway.

2. Why did you select the area to survey?

A: Because there are alot of kids walking down there.

3. How long did you remain in the same area?

A: About 10 minutes.

4. What sort of images did you capture?

A: I got alot of ones where people are looking at the camera and I got a few where people are accually doing their own thing.

5. Were you satisfied with the results? Why or why not?

A: I wasn't satisfied because I got a lot of photos of people looking at the camera.

6. Describe your favourite image; explain why it is your favourite.

A: My favorite image is the one at the top of this post. I like this photo because it looks like the people in this image look like they need to be going somewhere and they aren't looking at the camera.

7. How did people react to you?

A: A lot of people said to me " Why are you taking photos of me"

8. How did you feel while you were taking the photos? Anxious, awkward...

A: I felt kinda weird because I was taking photos of people without them knowing....
